A skilled fundraising educator and a savvy networker, Julie is a creative, good-humored ally to nonprofits here in her home of Washington, DC, and beyond. Through Carter Consulting Group, Julie offers in-depth, long-term consulting on Comprehensive Campaigns, Individual Giving Programs, Major & Planned Gifts, and Corporate Sponsorships, as well as expert guidance with Interim Staff Support.

As an expert consultant, Julie works side by side with your staff and board to help you make the best strategic and tactical decisions possible. Her work is highly tailored to your unique needs and circumstances, and every relationship begins by fully understanding the culture, practices, and values of your organization.

Before founding Carter Consulting Group, Julie served as Chief Development Officer for three major DC-based arts and culture organizations: Americans for the Arts, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens.

Julie shepherded each institution through periods of great change, building skills, enhancing confidence, and increasing results.

In addition to her consulting work, Julie sits on the board of ArtsFairfax – Fairfax County, Virginia’s local arts agency. She’s also an active member of many industry groups, including the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, American Alliance of Museums, Association of Philanthropic Counsel, Association of Fundraising Professionals – Washington, DC Chapter, and the National Capital Planned Giving Council.
